Services Selection Board
The Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview is a gateway of different entries passing through which one can become an Officer in Indian Defence Forces except the Indian Medical Corps. The SSB Interview is an exercise which assesses the overall potential of candidate as a future officer through different corners like analytically, psychologically and physically.
The tests conducted by the SSB aim at selecting individuals with OLQs (Officer Like Qualities). These qualities include effective intelligence, sense of responsibility, taking initiative, decision making in various situations, analytical power, communication skills, determination, courage, self-confidence, team leadership, team coordination, physical strength, effective listening, body language, power of expression, passion, liveliness, speed in decision-making, social adaptability and loyalty to the nation. Most of the tests require average intelligence. The SSB attempts to gauge the natural responses of the candidate i.e. what the candidate actually is? The tests are graded into various categories as individual and in group. Candidates go through the various testing stages in the course of 5-10 days. They are continuously under the observation not only during the tests but also during the course of their stay at the SSB centre.
